      Background

I have a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) from York University, Toronto. I have completed advanced training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at the Beck Institute in Pennsylvania,  and  at University of Toronto.

I have worked as  a counsellor in a crisis counselling centre for children and youth. I have also worked as a community coordinator in a healthcare agency, providing support to people living with chronic and complex conditions.

I opened a Private Practice as a therapist about 2 years ago and have since worked at various clinics in Toronto. Currently, I practice at Hard Feelings Mental Health in the West End and at my office in the East End. I have recently been contracted by Shift Collab, a mental health practice, to provide video counselling. I am also a practitioner for a couple of EAP firms.

I engage in regular professional supervision and trainings to keep up to date with the research and trends in my profession.  I am currently enrolled in a course on online counselling for mental health practitioners at the Zur Institute.

About

My name is Mihaela Anghel and I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and a member in good standing with the Ontario College of  Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), as well as the Ontario Association of  Social Workers (OASW). I started in private practice because I am convinced that I can do more out here in the world to support people be better versions of themselves: more accepting, more compassionate, less hurt by their own and other people's baggage.

I'd like to live in a world where people are not held back by anxiety, depression or lack of confidence. You are capable: to be more engaged in your relationships, your work and your play. Therapy-the healing and tending of the mind- is a great tool to use in the accomplishment of this goal.

As a therapist, I am curious to learn about your life’s journey, to see how it has shaped you. I am open and kind, but also direct and clear-cut; I’ve been told that I am assertive and passionate.

In therapy with me you will examine the thoughts that are limiting you and your functioning. As much as we’ll work together in session, I expect that you work outside of our sessions as well. I will assign readings and homework, in bites that you are comfortable with. I do this because I believe that you are capable and in charge of changing your thoughts and your life in a way that feels aligned with who you want to be in this world.

When we deny the story, it defines us. When we own the story, we can write a brave new ending.
